CED-CPJ Joint Virtual Training Series: Batch 1 of 3 Completed

Center for Entrepreneurship (CED), Brac University, in collaboration with Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ), Brac University, organized a month-long virtual training on “Women Entrepreneurship for Promoting Peace and Social Cohesion”.

The central focus of the course is to prepare the young women entrepreneurs with the essence of entrepreneurship and business planning skills which is essential for the success of new entrepreneurial ventures.

This online training aimed to empower young female students to design a social business model for promoting peace, social cohesion and COVID-19 resilience.  CED and CPJ received applications from interested female students of University of Dhaka (DU), Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR), Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) and Brac University (BracU) to participate in the training.

The training was titled “Women Entrepreneurship for Promoting Peace and Social Cohesion” under the ‘Securing the Peace Off and Online Project’, funded by UN Women.

The training started on December 19, 2020 with 60 female students from Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR) and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), being the first batch of training that ended successfully on January 20, 2021.

The second and third batch training will resume simultaneously on January 22, 2021 with 150 female students from University of Dhaka (DU), Brac University (BracU).

The programme recruited the participants based on their needs for the training. The subject delivery of the training combines both theoretical and practical aspects of entrepreneurship. Theoretical aspect is looking at the important elements in understanding entrepreneurship, while the practical aspect is engaging the students to develop and propose a viable Business Plan.

This four-week free online entrepreneurship course covers five topics. The course is designed to introduce:

– The foundational concepts of entrepreneurship, including the definition of entrepreneurship;
– Concept of market segmentation;
– Design thinking process of product or service development, sales and marketing to convert business ideas to reality;
– Business plan creation to attract potential investors to invest in your enterprise; and
– The role of social venture in promoting peace, social cohesion in society.

Upon successful completion of the project participants were awarded with a certificate and mobile data worth BDT 1500. Along with that, four best business plans will also be awarded with seed funds of BDT 50,000 under Peace Café.
