During 18-20 October 2022, CED-BRAC University organized a 3-day training for the Field Officers of the pilot study ‘Search Frictions and Information about Job Vacancies in Bangladesh’s Apparel Sector”. CED-BRACU is conducting this pilot in collaboration with Columbia University (U.S), and the University of Washington (U.S), and BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD). Ten (10) field officers have participated on the training.
The research aims to see how information on job vacancy of factories help workers to find jobs that are good fits for them. As part of the pilot, 270 export-oriented RMG factories from Savar, Gazipur, and Narayanganj are to be surveyed. These factories are sampled using the data of the digital RMG repository of Mapped in Bangladesh (MiB) which has more than 3700 factories with the basic factory information collected by conducting a nation-wide factory census.
CED has been implementing MiB project since 2017. BGMEA and BKMEA are the strategic partner of the project. At present, the 2nd phase of the project is ongoing with the funding of Laudes Foundation and GIZ.
