Orientation of Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Program

November 20, 2022

The orientation program of the capacity development program of the “Academy for Women Entrepreneurs” (AWE) has been inaugurated at EMK Center in Dhaka on 20 November 2022.

BRAC University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), along with programs partners; the Department of State and EMK Center of the USA, are currently implementing the AWE Program, which marks CED’s decade-long partnership with the Department of State and the US Embassy.

The orientation program started with the welcome speech by Ms. Aisha Siddiqua, Program Assistant, EMK Center.

Honourable US Ambassador to Bangladesh H. E. Mr. Peter Haas announced the commencement of the training program and shared his valuable thoughts on the initiative.

BRAC University’s Registrar Dr David Dowland congratulated the implementing partners for their innovative efforts in developing such a program that follows a hybrid model of both online and offline sessions.

Among the participants of the training, two of the women entrepreneurs shared their experiences and the challenges they faced during their entrepreneurial journey, and also their expectations from this training.

CED’s Joint Director Afshana Choudhury expressed her deepest appreciation to H. E. Ambassador Haas for his kind support and also to the implementing partners of the program, as well as the facilitators and the team at large for their tremendous effort to run the program.

This training program is expected to contribute to the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Bangladesh by providing cordial support to potential women entrepreneurs.

For the training, CED has enrolled a total of 55 participants (aged 20-45 years) from over 1607 registered applicants.

The participants are from different backgrounds and are aspiring entrepreneurs planning to launch their own businesses with prior experience in the field.

The Vote of Thanks was provided by the Director of EMK Center Mr Alamzeb Farjad Ahmed; where respected dignitaries and invited guests were present at the program.

Through the AWE Program, the inclusion of women entrepreneurs, especially small enterprise-owning women, grassroots women entrepreneurs, as well as indigenous and minority communities in the mainstream of our economy poses many challenges; however, denotes a significant notion of collective effort.

Therefore, this training program creates new hopes within these communities by strengthening their confidence and showing them the right way to flourish.

Today’s inauguration of the AWE Program exhibits the value and strength of the partnership between CED-BRAC University and the US Embassy.

The distinguished guest also thanked all the participants for enrolling in the program and reminded them that the world needs more leaders like them.
