Celebrating the spring season while tasting different types of Pithas and having fun with the diligent fighters of our RMG industry couldn’t be any better.
While portraying the culture of Bangladesh through the traditional sweet dish known as “Pitha”, Mapped in Bangladesh (MiB) has recently rejoiced a delightful morning with the RMG workers in an event called “Pitha Utshab”.
Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) of BRAC University, as a part of the mapping project MiB Phase 2, organized this auspicious event for the garment workers and right-based organizations (RBOs) who have been industriously supporting the RMG industry of Bangladesh.
The event was held on 24 February 2023 Friday during 10 AM – 12 PM in Dhaka at BRAC University.
The Pitha Utshab aimed at finding different pathways to support workers through initiatives like MiB, improving workers’ experiences and engagement in using the digital map, and of course, helping RBOs negotiate with stakeholders using MiB data.
Ms Nazma Akter from Awaj Foundation and GIZ Advisor Ms Nusrat Jahan attended the program, along with representatives from Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity (BCWS), OSHAcademy, and Federation of Garments Workers (FGW). Over 50 workers from different RMG factories also participated in the event.
The event features different fun and creative activities such as a Pitha-eating competition, Bashanto Baran, dancing with traditional music, singing duets, taking photos, acting spontaneously, and other interactive activities like sharing thoughts on MiB.
The Pitha Utshob functioned as a refreshment event to motivate the workers to carry on with their extra-curricular activities for which the workers generally have very limited time in their lives.
The participants dressed in the color of Spring enjoyed the moments of the auspicious event and were delighted and enjoyed the event served with different types of Pithas.
