Addressing Climate Change and Plastic Waste in Bangladesh’s Garment Industry from
a Global Value Chain Perspective

Funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark [2024 – 2029]

In 2024, CED secured funding from the Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC) of DANIDA for a pioneering project titled “Plastic Waste and Climate Change in Bangladesh’s Garment Industry”. This groundbreaking initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Syddansk Universitet – University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and with the partnership of the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka, has received approval from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Innovation Fund (of Denmark). Our esteemed partners, SDU and IBA, are crucial contributors to this project, which will become a flagship initiative for CED. The research project implies a significant leap forward in addressing plastic waste and climate change challenges within Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry for shaping a more sustainable and resilient future.
